The Walkers
The Walkers
These cute ladies were part of a series of vases called The Walkers, from my gallery show CACOPHONY. The show was about daily noise which surrounds us. If we sit with the noise, let the messages filter through the chaos, we may find things we need to hear even if they are uncomfortable or even painful.
I slab built these sculptures by hand with porcelain and a red stoneware. After assembling the forms and adding attachments such as noses, and ears, I handpainted with underglaze. After going through a bisque firing, the vases were glazed with a mixed red interior and clear exterior. The dress patterning is an overlay of red and clear glazes. Lastly they were fired to cone 6. The red stoneware piece additionally has 22k gold luster on her handbag.
