Don’t let the gold hair fool you, this creepy container is a bonafide beatnik.

This creepy container was made as a demonstration for my class, Creepy Containers, that I teach from my home studio. I handmade her from rolled slabs of white porcelain. For the eyes and bow, I tinted the porcelain with pigment to create a pink hue. Once the shape was formed, I handpainted with underglaze and then bisque fired the piece. The inside has a blend of different glazes and the outside is clear glazed. Her lid is covered with a puffy glaze to create a unique textured effect that is more delicate. After firing to cone 6, I added large amounts of 22k gold luster details to the face and hair before a third and final firing.

Beatnik Creepy Container with lid is 5” x 4.5” x 7”.

Without her lid she is 5” x 3.75” x 5”.

She is signed on the bottom.
