Are these comics or zines or art books or maybe poems with pictures? YES. Whatever they are, I started making them as a teenager and have been playing with these forms ever since. I rely heavily upon the zinester’s tools: copiers, printers, and staplers but then I push the form further with hand-cut pages, interactive elements, and pop-ups. The images and words look like comics but sometimes read more like a poem. They are all about mythology and feminism, even the butt one.

If She Was Beholden, Could She Ever Be the Beholder?
If She was Beholden, Could She Ever Be the Beholder, is a hand-cut and assembled artist zine filled with illustrations originally created with a mix of ink, graphite, and gouache. The book is a primal scream of rage against a world filled with misogyny and other outrages that never seem to get better. This is rage is loosely intertwined with imagery and references to the story of Medusa and her relationship with Athena. And while the struggle in this story can feel hopeless and unwinnable, the book still ends with encouragement to keep bettering ourselves and while fighting injustice.
In These Tangled Webs
In These Tangled Webs is a short handmade comic that features a group of woman and one cat who seek to find meaning. The book is printed on double-sided photo paper and features hand-cut pages and one fold-out page.

A Daughter’s House
A Daughter’s Name is an art comic which is made using a unique construction method that means every page is an uninterrupted sheet of paper with a fold in the middle, allowing for vast, complicated illustrations. The story consists of two meditations upon chronic illness, misogyny, supporting a loved one through mental illness, and what it means to be a woman trying to balance different parts of her life. The book consists of some hand-cut pages, fold-outs, and a mini book nestled inside the larger book.
It is available for purchase in my shop.
Sometimes There Are Stories
Sometimes There Are Stories, is an accordion-fold art zine with pop-up elements throughout. Designed and illustrated in 2023, each copy is hand-cut and assembled by Erika. You can purchase a copy here.
To the Witch’s House
To the Witch’s House is a coloring book I illustrated and designed in 2023. It features detailed illustrations and hand-cut pages for a dynamic coloring experience. Copies of this book can be purchased here.
Walking Mountains
Walking Mountains is a handpainted comic inspired by a body of ceramic work that I made of the same name. While creating the ceramic walking mountains, I felt a story building in me around these figures. To create this book, I cut out the shapes first and then painted the women into the shapes as I would with a ceramic piece. This book has pages each cut by hand for every copy. You can purchase a copy here.
In Her House
In Her House was an idea for a zine that I created over a very intensive 4 day period. The idea behind it is that it is a book but also an art object that can be displayed on a shelf or a mantle. It is an accordion-fold zine that is hand-cut. The exterior is black and white and the interior is color. It comes with 2 stand up paper dolls and a sheet of stickers. It can be purchased here.
PAGEANT
PAGEANT was created to accompany a gallery exhibit of the same name at Wolff Gallery in Portland in 2019. The book walks you through a city that is celerating a hybrid Roman War Pageant meets beauty pageant. The houses open up so you can peek inside. The pages are all hand-cut. There have been 4 editions of this zine each edition using different combinations of print methods and colors. You can purchase the current edition here.
In the Middle or the Beginning or Perhaps it Was the End
In the Middle or the Beginning or Perhaps It Was the End was the first project I did where I started pushing at the boundaries of what it meant to be a zine. This is the project that made each progressively complicated project possible. This zine is a circular story, the story starts and ends on the cover, though it is a story without words. Copies of this zine can be purchased here.
