Some of my wackiest work comes from teaching ceramics. Moon Pouch Mama and Baby started as a coil building demonstration and ended with shock and awe. So prepare to shock and awe your guests with this bold statement piece and her little bebe.
I handbuilt this piece with a pale stoneware and handpainted with underglaze. After bisque firing, I covered the entire piece with multiple glazes to create different effects on her body and face. She was then fired to cone 6 before being adorned with 22k gold luster details followed by a final firing.
This piece has a nonstructural firing crack that is visible on the inside of the pouch.
Moon Mama measures approximately 9.5” x 5.5” x 10”. She is signed on the bottom.
Moon Baby measures approximately 2.5” x 2.25 × 1.5”.
