Heavy Vessel with 22k Gold Luster
Heavy Vessel with 22k Gold Luster
I love teaching because some of my favorite pieces came from prompts and questions posed by my amazing students. And while the weight of the piece was not part of my original intention, it is a reminder that sometimes a hefty piece of ceramic can be very satisfying to hold (or a good tool for self defense).
This vessel was handmade with a pale stoneware and handpainted with underglaze. After bisque firing, I applied a uniquely beautiful glaze to the interior and clear glaze on the exterior. Next the heavy vessel was fired to cone 6. Lastly I applied 22k gold luster details, followed by a third and final firing.
The piece measures approximately 10” x 5” x 7” and is signed on the bottom.
Because of the unique interior structure, there is no reliable way to ensure cleanliness, hence she is NOT FOOD SAFE.
