This vessel is as useless as the panic that is imposed on us everyday by an unrelenting world. Three ladies share a single body expressing their fear and lack of optimism in a quirky and fun way; also there is gold.
I handmade this vessel from a pale stoneware. After forming the shape, including the hand on head which is one of my favorite hands I’ve ever made. I handpainted the piece with underglaze, and did you see how I painted that hand?! After bisque firing, I applied clear glaze to the inside and out and black glaze to create the interior patterning. I then fired the piece a second time to cone 6. Lastly, I added gold luster details before firing a third and final time.
The Useless Vessel stands 11” tall and is signed on the bottom.
