Self Portrait in Clay with 22k Gold Luster
As a little kid I was obsessed with carrying all my prized possessions everywhere I went. Perhaps this feeds into my delight of creating creatures with pouches for easier transport instead of plastic bags. What this magical lady carries is entirely up to you. Maybe she stands atop your desk holding writing implements or perhaps her pouch is filled with dry flowers to decorate your mantle place. No matter what she will bring you as much happiness as when I created her.
I handbuilt this piece with a pale stoneware and handpainted with underglaze. After bisque firing, I applied clear glaze to the outside and coated the interior with black glaze. She was then fired to cone 6 before being adorned generously with 22k gold luster followed by a final firing.
She measures approximately 6” x 4” x 8”, and is signed on the bottom.
