Am I Terrible, Wall Plate with 22k Gold Luster
This piece was part of my 2026 show titled, Verrucas’s Daughter, at The Arts Center in Corvallis, OR. The theme of the show was to ask if in the present moment, must every work be a deeply meaningful commentary on the world, or is it enough if it simply makes the viewer smile for a moment? This pieces asks if it is alright to want some frivolity. The pocket friend responds with affirmation but as long as it is not used to always ignore the world. It is meaningful and silly, much like me!
I handmade this wall plate with a red stoneware. After slab rolling and forming the shape, I handpainted with multiple underglazes. Once bisque fired and cooled, I applied a clear glaze to the front and then fired to cone 6. Lastly, I added 22k gold luster details and fired for a third and final time.
Plate measures 10.25”x 9,5” x 1.5”, is ready to hang with hand tied ribbon loops, and is signed on the back.
Pocket friend is 4” x 2.25”.
