This piece was part of my 2026 show titled, Verrucas’s Daughter, at The Arts Center in Corvallis, OR. The theme of the show was to ask if in the present moment, must every work be a deeply meaningful commentary on the world, or is it enough if it simply makes the viewer smile for a moment? In this particular piece, one lady asks, “How is this helping?”, and her pocket friend responds, “It’s definitely not hurting.”.

I handmade this wall plate from a red stoneware. After slab rolling and forming the shape, I handpainted the lady and her pocket friend with underglaze. After bisque firing, I applied a clear glaze to the front and then fired to cone 6. Lastly I added 22k gold luster details before a third and final firing.

The plate measures: 11” x 9” 1.75”

Pocket friend measures: 4.5” x 2.25” x .25”
