This piece was part of my 2026 show titled, Verucas’s Daughter, at The Arts Center in Corvallis, OR. The theme of the show was to ask if in the present moment, must every work be a deeply meaningful commentary on the world, or is it enough if it simply makes us smile for a moment? In this piece two stacked say, “without meaning, we are empty”, but it is up to you to decide what is meaningful.

This vase handmade rolled slabs of red stoneware. Once the shape was formed, I handpainted with colorful underglaze to create the faces, hair, eyes, and word bubbles. I also painted the plaid using a technique of layering underglaze before it was bisque fired. Once it was out of the kiln, I applied clear glaze and fired to cone 6. Lastly, I added details with 22k gold luster before a third and final firing.

Vase measures 12” x 7” x 2.5”.

Ready to hang from two holes placed on the back, and is signed on the bottom.
