This piece was part of my 2026 show titled, Verrucas’s Daughter, at The Arts Center in Corvallis, OR. The theme of the show was to ask if in the present moment, must every work be a deeply meaningful commentary on the world, or is it enough if it simply makes the viewer smile for a moment? This pieces tells us that, “Meaning is in the eye of the beholder”. Of course when considering there are sixteen eyes in this piece, perhaps finding meaning is not singular.

This vase handmade rolled slabs of red stoneware. Once the shape was formed, I handpainted with colorful underglaze to create the face, hair, eyes, and word bubble. I also painted the plaid using a technique of layering underglaze before it was bisque fired. Once it was out of the kiln, I applied clear glaze and then fired again to cone 6. Lastly, I adorned this fancy, multi-eyed lade with of 22k gold luster on her crown before a third and final firing.

Vase measures 9” x 7” x 2.5”. Ready to hang from two holes placed on the back.
