Spreading Happiness, Wall Plate with 22k Gold Luster
Spreading Happiness, Wall Plate with 22k Gold Luster
This piece was part of my 2026 show titled, Verucas’s Daughter, at The Arts Center in Corvallis, OR. The theme of the show was to ask if in the present moment, must every work be a deeply meaningful commentary on the world, or is it enough if it simply makes the viewer smile for a moment? This pieces choses the latter as she says, “Spreading happiness is important work.”.
I handmade this wall plate with a red stoneware. After slab rolling and forming the shape, I handpainted the lady with multiple underglazes. Once she was bisque fired and cooled, I applied a clear glaze to the front and fired a second time to cone 6. Lastly, I added 22k gold luster details on her dress and fired for a third and final time.
She measures 10”x 8”, is ready to hang with hand tied ribbon loops, and is signed on the back.
