I am very passionate about teaching as I find great satisfaction in helping aspiring artists expand their skills and fulfill their ambitions for making art. While I’ve done in-person teaching for many years, I have gradually expanding to offer opportunities to work with me through online learning. If you are outside of Portland but would like to connect, here are four great ways where we can work together!
Comics for Self Reflection, An Online Four Week Workshop - For the first time ever I will be offering a class I’ve taught in my studio, and making it available online. In this online class we will work through four stages of developing your own personal comic to support processing emotions and removing mental blocks. Class runs every Tuesday, 9/22 to 10/13, 10am - 1pm PST.
Mastrius - On this site I will offer mentorship to artists with a focus on practical, daily skills such as sketchbooking, journaling, planning, and a dive into the deeper whys and hows of our art practice. Starts October 28, meets monthly on the 2nd Thursday of every month.
Halloween Zine: Hand-Cut Books! - Step into Halloween-making, where shadows, silhouettes, and suggestion take center stage. In this one-day online workshop with artist and zine-maker Erika Rier, you’ll learn how to create a hand-cut zine that unfolds through layers of absence and reveal. Live on October 24
Art Zines with Erika Rier (prerecorded) - This fun class covers everything from brainstorming through planning, layout and adding handcrafted details such as hand-cut pages and a gatefold, so that your art zine can be a truly unique publication. Fun fact, my zine, “In These Tangled Webs” was created as a demonstration and made during the filming of this course.
