A few years back, I made a series of busts that were inspired by the Barbie Dream Girls. If you don’t recall, were too young, or not yet born, the Barbie Dream Girl was a bust of Barbie that came with hair dressing tools so you could spend hours styling her nylon hair. I never had one but god only knows what I would have done if I had been given the opportunity to cut, shave, color, or glue those plastic locks.

So for this piece I wanted to see what would happen if I revisited this idea in my current style and for good measure, make her into a cone incense holder. FUN!

I handmade this lady from a pale stoneware and handpainted her with underglaze. Once she was bisque fired, I applied a crystal blue glaze to her top and clear glaze on her hands, face, and hair, before firing to cone 6. Lastly, I gave this fancy lady 22k gold luster hair and patterning followed by a final firing.
