We Are Not Fun
We Are Not Fun
This piece was part of my 2026 show titled, Verucas’s Daughter, at The Arts Center in Corvallis, OR. The theme of the show was to ask if in the present moment, must every work be a deeply meaningful commentary on the world, or is it enough if it simply makes the viewer smile for a moment? This pieces asks itself if they are fun (hint, they are not).
This double vase was handmade from red stoneware. Once the shape was formed, I handpainted with colorful underglaze to create the faces, hair, eyes, and word bubbles. Once it was out of the bisque kiln, I applied multiple glazes to create different effects and then fired again to cone 6. Lastly, I adorned these fancy creatures with 22k gold luster before a third and final firing.
Vase measures 10” x 6” x 10”, and is signed on the bottom.
