Drawing from my deep appreciation of Beat Poetry, I love to capture fragments of overheard conversations and use them to create new meaning. In this example a green hair lady is exclaiming, “It’s not obvious”. By the time a quote is pulled from my notebook, the original context is long gone and replaced with new meaning on a beautiful piece of handmade and handpainted ceramic!

This mug was handmade with a pale stoneware and handpainted with colorful underglaze. Once it was bisque fired, I added a dark green glaze to the inside that drips over the rim, and clear glaze on the hair and handle. The face and word bubble were left unglazed. After the mug was through the glaze kiln, I applied 22k gold luster details before a third and final firing.

This mug is 3” tall, holds approximately 4.5 fl oz, perfect for an esspresso or spot of tea!
