This piece was part of my 2026 show titled, Verucas’s Daughter, at The Arts Center in Corvallis, OR. The theme of the show was to ask if in the present moment, must every work be a deeply meaningful commentary on the world, or is it enough if it simply makes us smile for a moment? In this piece called Valkyrie Mother, I envision her forever home being in a yard where she brings peace, happiness, and silliness for many years to come.

This mystical creature was handbuilt by me using a red stoneware. After forming the shape and letting it dry, I painted her with underglaze. Once she was bisque fired, I applied multiple glazes to create different effects. She was then put back through the kiln for a cone 6 glaze firing to make her shine. Lastly, I added the final details with my favorite 22k gold luster followed by a third firing.

This piece is approximately 13” x 12” x 9.5”.
