Put Your Hands to Work: Less Thinking, More Creating.

A twelve week class to support a sustainable art practice.

Tuesdays, January 6th to March 24th: 6pm - 9pm

Put Your Hands to Work was developed to support artists of all skill levels, disciplines and mediums who have a strong desire to create their own sustainable artistic practice within a supportive community.

Over the course of twelve weeks we will meet weekly to develop habits that support your artistic practice by discussing a variety of curated topics, engaging in creative activities, and setting weekly goals.

One of the most essential skills you will develop throughout the class and beyond, is learning how a sketchbook is a tool to record ideas regardless of drawing ability. Through discussions and exercises we will learn how a sketchbook helps you to find your voice and create a backlog of ideas for future inspiration. As part of this class you will be provided with a pocket sketchbook.

What you can expect in each class:

  • Group check-in on progress of goals and assignments from prior week.

  • Guided discussion on focus of the week.

  • Focused weekly activities and information to support artistic practice.

  • Weekly intention setting and goals to support your practice

Examples of weekly topics:

  • How a sketchbook is your most valuable tool

  • Sometimes shit breaks and how to respond

  • Evils of overthinking and perfectionism

  • Consistency creates inspiration

  • Making what you want to make, not what you think you should make

  • Challenging viewers and yourself

  • Creating assignments outside of an academic setting

  • Going beyond your medium

  • Small work is important

  • Building good habits
